Suikido Kobudo
Blends traditional Yamashita/Matayoshi Kobudo with the fluid application based principals of Suikido Kobudo. Our foundational training follows the Yamashita/Matayoshi basics with structured drills, pre-arranged forms and application drills. In addition to this traditional weapons training, we have added escrima (stick fighting techniques) and how to take common objects found in everyday life and apply kobudo principals and use these objects for self-defense. Kobudo strengthens core strength, furthers manual dexterity and teaches us to train and use a weapon as an extension of our body.
Suikido
Suikido, �the spirit of Water�, follows the concepts that Phillip Sauer learned while training with Master Tadashi Yamashita for over 35 years. Suikido is a progressive system that combines aspects of the traditional Yamashita Shoren-Ryu system with principals from Suikendo.
Suikido takes an application approach to martial arts; what is learned in the dojo should be applied and related to the practitioner�s life. It is this approach of students understanding the principles that relate to the practice of martial arts that empowers them to personalize their practice of martial arts.
Our unique program is a blend of traditional Yamashita Shorin-Ryu and the progressive system of Suikendo or Way of the Water First. Suikido emphasizes fluidity, continuous circular motion to maintain energy and redirect an aggressor�s force against them. Our program incorporates redirecting an aggressor�s energy then defending with powerful strikes, throws, submissions and joint locks enabling you to effectively neutralize your aggressor. Our training includes application-based training for all pre-arranged katas of forms that are taught. In addition you will learn pre-arranged complexes of movements that are performed with a partner building dynamic effective self-defense skills.
Combining your training with proper breathing and relaxation martial arts training creates a pathway for health, physical fitness, tranquility and a balanced lifestyle. Martial Arts training focuses on perseverance, overcoming weaknesses developing strength and focus towards a goal oriented life.
